Your work is finished.
Who really inspected the installation?

For any premises that are not housing, the law requires an acceptance inspection by an independent body within 6 months of the work. It is the second pair of eyes — the one that protects your investment, your liability and your occupants.

What the law says

After electrical work, the installer carries out their own final inspection. For housing, it stops there. For everything else — shop, restaurant, office, practice, school, workshop — the OIBT (the Swiss Low-Voltage Installations Ordinance) also requires an acceptance inspection by an independent inspection body, within 6 months. Whoever did the work cannot carry out this inspection and must leave the client free to choose.

The “turnkey” trap

A common practice: the installer offers to “take care of everything”, inspection included.

Acceptance by a partner of the installerAcceptance by an independent body
Installation defectsGo through unnoticedDetected during the warranty → corrected at the installer's expense
At the next periodic inspectionEverything comes out, at YOUR expenseClean file, nothing to pay
In the event of a claimYou, the owner, have to answer for the installationYour proof that you did what was required: an independent report, dated and signed

Why it is YOUR concern, not the electrician's

You are the one who answers for the installation — owner, operator, project owner — not the contractor.

The simple rule: you appoint the acceptance inspection body. Not the one who did the work.

Frequently asked questions

My installer says they take care of the inspection. Is that a problem?

For their own final inspection, no — that is their role. For the acceptance inspection, yes: it must be carried out by an independent body, and it is up to the project owner to appoint it — they are free to choose.

When does the acceptance inspection have to be done?

Within 6 months of the end of the work.

And if defects come up?

You receive a precise list — what, where, why — to pass on to the installer, who corrects under warranty.

How much does it cost?

A fixed quote based on the size of the installation, announced beforehand.

Work finished? The 6-month countdown is running.

The acceptance inspection takes place within 6 months of your electrician's final inspection — ideally before the final payment: any defects found are still corrected by the installer. We tell you what you need to have in hand and what we check.
